Fun with Watercolors

January 13, 2010 in Productivity

As part of my personal development and goal to do something creative every day I am taking up watercolor painting. To that end I sat down on Sunday morning and decided to paint this:

I never know what to paint, I am sure that this is common for beginners, so I decided to just make a picture of something simple with some color and shading.

In the early morning light, there was a set of interesting shadows inside the box and the yellow sides looked like different colors.

Perfect.

I used the most basic tools and dived right in:

brushes for watercolorpainting

And this is the result:

watercolor painting of a light-bulb box

Not too bad for a first effort, eh? When I originally posted a pic of my art supplies on flickr, another user commented that I should get rid of the cheap paints. I think that they will work just fine for what I am doing, which is learning about shapes, holding the brushes, and experimenting with color.

Any thoughts? Do any of you have artsy hobbies? If so, please share a link, or connect on flickr.
